(Washington, D.C.) — Louisiana State Representative Steven Jackson announced today that he has been selected to attend the U.S. Supreme Court’s rehearing in Louisiana v. Callais, a rare and historic proceeding that could redefine how redistricting is conducted across the country.

The Callais case, set for rehearing on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, challenges the constitutionality of Louisiana’s congressional map and raises broader questions about the role of race in redistricting. The Court’s decision could affect not only Louisiana’s congressional boundaries but also how state legislative and local governing districts are drawn nationwide.

“It is an honor to be selected to attend a Supreme Court oral argument of this magnitude,” said Rep. Jackson. “As a state legislator representing constituents whose district lines are before the Court and as a resident of the very congressional district at issue, I believe it is important to be present as this historic case unfolds. The Court’s decision could reshape how redistricting is approached at every level of government, from Congress to statehouses to parish and city councils.”

Rehearings before the Supreme Court are exceedingly rare, underscoring the national significance of Louisiana v. Callais. The Court will determine whether states can consider race when redrawing district lines to comply with the Voting Rights Act, or whether doing so violates the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
