For Immediate Release

Caddo Commissioner Steven Jackson will announce his candidacy for the Louisiana Legislature for House District-2. The campaign announcement will take place on August 3, 2023 at 5:30 at the Lynx (pronounced: links) Restore Bar (3940 Greenwood Rd).

A native of Shreveport and graduate of Woodlawn High School, Grambling State University, and LSU-Shreveport, Jackson has had two successful terms as a Caddo Parish Commissioner. During this time of service, Jackson has been instrumental in spearheading several efforts such as(but not limited to):

  • Establish Southern University Law School satellite in Shreveport

  • Help bring Amazon to North Shreveport creating 1000 jobs once opened

  • Supported Increased Funding for Summer Youth Employment at the Parish

  • Reformed Caddo Parish retirement system and travel policy.

  • Discontinued practice of connecting Commission pay raises to employee and staff raises.

  • Instrumental in getting Mobile COVID19 testing in underserved community at the height of pandemic.

  • Establishing the E.E Edwards Jones Housing Trust Fund and securing $200 million funding for housing in Shreveport-Bossier

  • Secured $1million dollars to help support building Caddo Common Urban Park.

  • Enacting legislation to place a moratorium on payday lending companies.

  • Established the wheel chair ramps program for Caddo Parish Seniors and Military Veterans

"I am deeply encouraged by grassroots support we receive as we talk to and engage with constituents across the district. They value the work ethic and experience that I bring to the table and they value the work that we have put in as a Caddo Parish Commissioner. We have data that show strong support for our campaign. We also have had a very impressive fundraising effort to build on resources we already had on hand. I am excited and looking forward to running a strong race. I solicit all prayers and support as we continue to keep the faith."

This kickoff event will be a great opportunity to network, shake hands, and learn about the progress of our campaign. I am also proud this event will also be supporting Lynx Restore Bar, a homegrown and woman owned business within the district.
